Inspired by a drink Wade ordered for someone who didn’t want it and a drink given to Wade that he didn’t want. Laced with character-driven nods, the “Aestivum Job” blends wheatgrass, citrusy Aviation Gin, spicy liqueurs, and a whipped cream garnish into a bold, green cocktail that’s equal parts chaos, charm, and Colossus-cool.
Named after Deadpool's iconic motto, “Maximum Effort” is a fiery, tropical cocktail blending brandy, passion fruit, and hot honey with a flame-topped over-proofed rum finish—sweet, spicy, and just reckless enough to feel like Wade Wilson in a glass.
Deadpool: A Wildly Irreverent, Action-Packed Spin on the Superhero Genre- Inspiring Two Equally Irreverent Cocktails
Every guy dressed up in a skin-tight outfit has to tell you the story of how they got into it. Especially if there's a chance he'll get a couple of movies out of it. We've seen enough of said movies that this better be a really good one, or at least different. Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds, opens the movie with an impossibly hectic, but easy to follow action sequence. Using still-framed shots with a catchy tune that doesn't match the violence and situational humor that somehow makes all of the killing and mutilation okay. It is important to note that in Marval magic, no bystanders were visually confirmed to be caught in any cross-hairs. Deadpool breaks the fourth-wall and explains that this is not an action movie. It is a romance, a tragic romance of Shakespearian proportions. Deadpool then tells the story of when he was Wade Wilson and somehow managed to trade some cash and maybe a frozen yoghurt card for a couple of hours with the beautiful, witty, fun, spicy "It" girl, Vanessa (Morena Baccarin). Those couple of hours eventually turn into a steamy, quirky montage that represents a significant amount of time that they have spent together. Wade Wilson couldn't be happier and in an instant, his life changed setting him on the path of obligatory skin tight clothing, a code name, and recklessly thrusting himself into harms way in order to extend the film length past your popcorn supply.
Our first cocktail is inspired by an early scene where Wade orders a Blow Job shot for a mercenary to fuel a fight to break out. The only bit we took from the Blow Job shot is the whipped topping garnish on top. The name, Aestivum Job gives away the main inspiration for this cocktail, that is if you know the Latin for Wheatgrass which is explained by Weasel (T.J. Miller) the bartender who as a friend tries to offer Wade a green shot rather than tequila. There is wheatgrass in this cocktail, but we would argue that this is the best green shot you will ever have. We had to use Aviation Gin as a nod to Ryan Reynolds and his pursuits outside of acting. The citrus notes of this clean tasting gin come through in this cocktail as well as the spice brought out by the Ginger Liqueur and Cinnamon Schnapps. Instead of a shot, we put the cocktail in a Collins glass and we used the chilling flavor of Rumple Minze to really make for a delicious cocktail and to represent Deadpool's X-Men "suitor" Colossus (Stefan Kapicic) a man made entirely of steel, trying to convince Deadpool to come to the "good side". Wheatgrass, Lemon, and Ginger.. It's practically a health drink, but with alcohol, just like Deadpool would order it.
Our second cocktail is named after Deadpool's motto uttered at the beginning of the movie "Maximum Effort". We blended together Brandy and Passion Fruit Chinola for a sweet cocktail to enhance the spiciness of the Hot Honey, Ginger and Cinnamon Syrups because we wanted you to get a lot of heat out of this cocktail. To finish it off, Over Proofed Rum is lit on top of the cocktail giving the cocktail a bit of a burnt sugar finish. The incident that left Wade scarred, scorched and disfigured forcing him to wear a mask and hide himself from the woman he loves ended in a massive fire. This drink is tropical and sweet, with a hint of spiciness and a kick of ABV depending on how long you let it burn. There is nothing all that intimidating about this cocktail, but it does feel a little bit reckless. Just like Deadpool.
In the world of “The hero always gets his guy”, we’ll remind you that Deadpool is an Anti-Hero, so we are left to question if Colossus got his guy. Circling back to Deadpool’s narrative, this is a tragic romance film, and it’s hard to tell if there’s any romance left by the end of it.
