The “First Rule” cocktail—an irreverent rum punch layered with spiced rum, sloe gin, pineapple, agave, and bitters—delivers a deceptively smooth yet rebellious kick, embodying the hush-hush allure of the First Rule of Fight Club in every sip. (Recipe Below)

While we can't talk about the inspiration for the First Rule cocktail, we can describe it.  For the First Rule, a punch seems like the perfect kind of cocktail.  So our rum punch starts with a heavy pour of Spiced Rum along with Sloe Gin and Pineapple Juice, balanced with agave and spiced with Angostura Bitters.  The result is a delicious drink that will knock the high society out of you before you even know it and have you saying, "I am Jack's smirking revenge".  No garnish, no straw, no excess. “If you don’t claim your humanity you will become static.” You've just learned the First Rule

The First Rule

2 oz (60mL) Spiced Rum

1.5 oz (45mL) Sloe Gin

.75 oz (22.5mL) Pineapple Juice

.5 oz (15mL) Agave

2 Dashes Angostura Bitters

In a shaker tin, pour in 2 oz of Spiced Rum, 1.5 oz Sloe Gin, .75 oz Pineapple Juice, .5 oz Agave, and 3 dashes of Angostura Bitters.  Add Shaker ice, cover and shake hard like the seventh rule: as long as you have to. Strain into your collins with ice.

  • Kraken Spiced Rum

    94 proof/47% ABV

    Proximo Spirits

Distilled from sugar cane molasses, aged, then blended with proprietary blend of spices.  The result is a warming rum by flavor and alcohol burn.  Vanilla and pie spice flavors accompany the warmth.

  • DeKuyper Sloe Gin

    40 proof/20% ABV

    Fortune Brands

Sloe Gin is made by macerating sloe berries/blackthorn drupes with a dry gin and sugar.  After macerating for sometime, it is filtered and a sugar syrup and water are added to balance flavor and alcohol content.  DeKuyper Sloe Gin has a plummy sweetness with a slight dust and is sweeter than other sloe gins.  There are also light citrus and bright undertones.

  • Pineapple Juice

    4-6% Acidity

Similar to Lemon Juice in acidity, but significantly more natural sugars which leaves a naturally balanced juice if freshly pressed. It is highly recommended to test the sweetness of the juice before adding additional sweeteners.

  • Agave

A neutrally flavored and easy to grab sweetener.  Golden, Amber and Dark Agave Nectars are available in the supermarket with darker versions being predictably more toasty or caramel in flavor.

  • Angostura Aromatic Bitters

    89.4 proof/ 44.7 ABV

    Angostura Limited

Flavored with several herbs and spices provided a concentration of pie-spice flavors brought out by the bitterness made with gentian root.  The caramel color is an additive.

Silk, Smoke, and Mayhem: Cocktails Inspired by Fight Club That Break the First Rule and Bottle the Chaos

Inspired by Fight Club, this cocktail feature channels the film’s bruised philosophy into two bold, subversive drinks. The “Paper Street” blends creamy decadence with a sly edge—its silky pink body nodding to the eerie luxury of Paper Street Soap Company while delivering a smoky tequila kick that lands like a back-alley punch. In contrast, the “First Rule” cocktail riffs on a classic rum punch, layering spice, fruit, and bitterness into something dangerously easy to drink and hard to forget, echoing the seductive pull of the First Rule of Fight Club. Together, they mirror the film’s descent from restless dissatisfaction into full-blown chaos, where indulgence and rebellion blur into one intoxicating experience. It’s a menu that doesn’t just reference the story—it distills its anarchic spirit into every glass.
